Devon’s Rooster and Rose Logo

Designed by Sonoma County DSA member Devon, this logo depicts the DSA's interracial handshake in front of a rose from which sprouts the head of a rooster. The rose is included due to its long-standing history of being used as a socialist symbol. The rooster is included both as a symbol of Sonoma County's huge population of agricultural workers and as an invocation of some of Sonoma County's first socialist activists; Petaluma's community of secular Jewish socialist immigrants from Eastern Europe, who were powerful activists from their arrival 1920s until their repression by the Red Scare and McCarthyism of the 1950s.
