What has our essentially brand new DSA been up to in the last six months? More than you might expect! We are out and about in the community quite often, and you can spot us with our chicken-rose logo and red shirts.
DSA members have been tabling every week at local Sonoma County events and we’ve received a lot of interest. If you see us at a farmer’s market, come give the wheel a spin!
We have multiple public events a month, including an outdoor hangout at a local brewery and a social meet-n-greet for newcomers. This casual time has allowed members to get to know each other and discuss their thoughts with curious folks. To understand the philosophy and history of socialism, we also have a book club, which has held some enlightening and reflective discussions.
The mutual aid committee has established a monthly community cleanup, trash bags included. This is gratifying, hands-on work that the public appreciates.
And, of course, Sonoma County DSA has been a part of and organized numerous protests since January. We continue to form coalitions with other anti-fascist organizations and share our voice with our most at-risk community members.
How is so much work possible? With many hands and hearts. Members have organized protests, formed internal committees and external coalitions, spoken to the public, and directly supported our community. This is only the beginning.
