Who We Are
We are the Sonoma County chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), the largest socialist organization in the United States. We are a member-driven, democratic movement fighting for the working class, not the wealthy.
Since we officially started in May of 2025, we are one of the fastest-growing chapters in the nation, with over 250 members across Sonoma County and beyond. We engage in mutual aid, protests, social events, community education, and more – and we’d love for you to join us.
A better world is possible. Help us build it.
What We Believe In
Everyone deserves a safe and dignified place to live. We support a variety of solutions to current housing issues, such as free social and multifamily housing under public stewardship, where people can save to buy a private home if they choose. In the interim, we believe in freezing rent and ending exploitative renting and home-buying practices.
Agencies that violate our community’s rights, including the right to due process, have no place in Sonoma County. Our county should not assist these agencies unless legally compelled, but they have. We denounce this collaboration and are working with the Sanctuary Coalition to make Sonoma County a safe haven against unjust incarceration and deportation.
Public transit connects us to our community. Lacking finances or a vehicle should not be a barrier to access. We deserve robust, publicly funded transit that can get us to work, home, appointments, stores, restaurants, and more so we can enjoy all Sonoma County has to offer.
Our utilities, built with public funds, are given to private entities to benefit wealthy investors. Water, energy and gas must be retained by the public and used to support our local community. Families should not worry about losing access to these basic needs if they can’t afford to fund big businesses.
Corporations control vast swaths of farmland at the expense of the masses as food insecurity runs rampant. We believe in bringing communal stewardship back to agriculture, taxing large estates, and working the land together with dignity and community to ensure everyone has food on the table.
Sonoma County is home to a vibrant arts scene that needs more support. The public should invest in what makes us human – art, community, and the spaces we enjoy together. Investing in community means showing up, supporting, and taking care of one another and the place we collectively inhabit.
California is an at-will employment state, which means employers may fire employees without notice for no reason. People have a right to secure income without the fear of sudden, arbitrary termination. We seek to educate workers and empower them to stand up against injustice in the workplace.
Businesses should remain neutral to unions – especially if they take public money – and not retaliate against them. Democracy in the workplace ensures workers’ voices are heard. It is a worker’s right to unionize and collectively bargain for what they need. We support our local labor unions and seek to empower them further through the work of our Labor and Liaison Committees.
We are anti-corruption in all things, but especially our local government. We demand full transparency regarding how our money is being spent with public input on budgets. The people of Sonoma County deserve to know where, how, and why our money is being spent with ample opportunity to voice our concerns.
We support proportional electoral reform, which provides more balanced representation and is more resistant to gerrymandering and other forms of manipulation. In our own democratic elections, we use a form of ranked-choice voting.
